Dog Training Consultation in Metro Detroit Area
Start with understanding your dog.
Every dog has a story, and good training starts with understanding it.
Wolf Pack Dog Training recommends a consultation before beginning any training service. This up-to-90-minute meeting gives Becky time to meet you and your dog, learn about the behaviors you’re experiencing, understand your goals and environment, and determine which training approach or service may be the best fit.
Just as importantly, your dog gets the opportunity to meet Becky before training begins, helping create familiarity and making future sessions safer, easier, and more comfortable.
Whether you’re starting with a new puppy, working on household manners, struggling with leash skills, or trying to better understand your dog’s behavior, we’ll build training around your dog, your family, your environment, and your goals.
All new clients must complete our New Client Form before scheduling training services.
Consultations are paid in full before the appointment. A $30 travel fee applies for locations 30+ minutes from Wolf Pack’s service area/base.
Why Start With a Consultation?
Because we want to understand the dog before we train the dog.
No two dogs walk through life with exactly the same experiences, temperament, environment, family, or needs.
A consultation gives Becky the opportunity to look at the whole picture rather than making assumptions based on a short description of a behavior.
We’ll talk about what you’re seeing, when and where behaviors happen, what you’ve already tried, what you’d like to accomplish, and
what everyday life looks like for your dog.
From there, Becky can help determine an appropriate path forward.
Think of It as a Meet & Greet — With a Purpose
Your dog gets to meet Becky before the real work begins.
For many dogs, a new person entering their space and immediately beginning training can add another layer of excitement, uncertainty, fear, or stress.
The consultation gives your dog time to see Becky, smell Becky, observe her, and become familiar with her presence without the pressure of jumping immediately into a full training session.
Becky also gets an opportunity to observe your dog’s communication, body language, comfort level, and behavior.
That familiarity can help make future training sessions safer, smoother, and easier for everyone involved.
We continue to grow and adapt our services around what our clients need—from private training and day training to community walks, enrichment opportunities, seasonal events, and ongoing support.
What Happens During Your Consultation?
Meet Your Dog

Talk About Your Concerns
Tell us what’s happening—the good, the frustrating, and everything in between. This is your opportunity to give Becky the full picture.
Discuss Your Goals
We’ll talk about what you’d like life with your dog to look like and identify realistic training goals for your household.
Review Your Environment
Ask Questions
Determine the Next Step
Your dog’s surroundings, routines, family members, and everyday experiences can all influence behavior and training.
Bring them! Your consultation gives you dedicated time to ask questions and better understand what may be happening with your dog.
After learning more about you and your dog, Becky can recommend the Wolf Pack service or training approach that may best fit your needs.
What Can We Talk About?
Your consultation can include concerns or questions about:
Puppy behaviors • Leash pulling • Recall • Jumping • Household manners • Barking • Reactivity • Fear • Anxiety • Confidence • Impulse control • Settling • New rescue dogs • Family routines • Enrichment • Socialization • Training goals
The goal isn’t for your dog to listen only when the trainer is around.
The goal is to help you and your dog succeed together.
Our consultation is essentially a meet-and-greet with a purpose. We’ll meet you and your dog, discuss your concerns and goals, observe your dog’s behavior, and learn more about their routine, environment, and training history. This gives us the information we need to recommend the best next steps.
Every dog and household is different. The consultation allows your trainer to get to know your dog before jumping into hands-on training. It helps us create a safer, more comfortable training experience and ensures the services we recommend actually fit your needs.
Not exactly. While your trainer may offer helpful guidance and demonstrate a few techniques, the primary purpose is assessment, relationship-building, and creating a training plan. Think of it as the foundation for the work that comes next.
Absolutely not—that’s why we’re coming! If your dog barks, jumps, hides, pulls, gets overly excited, or is nervous around new people, we want to see their natural behavior. There’s no expectation for your dog to be “perfect” before meeting us.
Yes. The $100 consultation fee is due before your scheduled appointment when taking place in your home. Any applicable travel fee will also be communicated before the appointment. Travel fee is $30 when travel exceeds more than 25 minutes.
